Girls Gymnastics Classes in Queens, NY for Ages 5 and Up
Lana’s Gymnastics Club has been teaching girls gymnastics in Queens for more than 30 years. Our program is built for girls aged 5 and up, at every level from a first cartwheel through advanced skills, in a gym designed and maintained to USAG safety standards. Classes run 55 minutes to 2 hours depending on level, and no prior experience is needed to start.
If you have been searching for girls gymnastics near you and want a program that treats your daughter as an individual rather than a number on a roster, this is what you will find at our Main Street gym in Flushing.
What Our Girls Gymnastics Program Covers
Girls at Lana’s train across the four Olympic women’s artistic gymnastics events, plus the tumbling and conditioning work that makes those events possible. Each class is structured as a rotation, so your daughter moves through several stations in a single session instead of drilling one skill for an hour.
Vault
Running approach, hurdle, and board timing, progressing from mat stacks and handstand flat-backs toward front handspring vaults for advanced gymnasts.
Bars
Grip strength and body-line work first, then pullovers, back hip circles, casts, and eventually kips and release work as she progresses.
Beam
Balance and confidence built on floor beams and low beams before anything happens at competition height. Walks, kicks, turns, jumps, and dismounts.
Floor
Rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, back and front walkovers, handsprings, and dance elements including leaps, jumps, and turns.
Tumbling, Flexibility and Conditioning
Every class includes a strength and flexibility block. This is what makes new skills safe rather than lucky, and it is also the part that carries over into every other sport your daughter plays.
Coaching, Ratios and Safety
Recreational classes run at a ratio of 1 coach to 8 students. That is deliberately low, and it is the difference between a girl being corrected on her own cartwheel and a girl watching a coach work the front of a line.
Our coaches are certified through the USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Trained program and are certified in CPR and First Aid. They are trained in proper spotting technique and spot every new skill. Equipment is inspected regularly to confirm it meets safety standards, and the facility follows USAG standards throughout.
Ages, Levels and How Classes Are Grouped
Girls gymnastics at Lana’s starts at age 5 and continues through age 16. Girls are placed by ability rather than strictly by age, so a confident 7 year old and a cautious 9 year old are both in a group where they are challenged without being overwhelmed.
- Beginner. No experience required. Basic shapes, body awareness, forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, and an introduction to all four events. 55 minute classes.
- Intermediate. Round-offs, back walkovers, pullovers, beam series, and vault progressions. Longer class times as skill volume increases.
- Advanced. Handsprings, connected series, competition-level vault, and bar release work. Classes run up to 2 hours.
Most beginner and advanced recreational girls train twice a week. Once a week works well for girls who are balancing gymnastics with other activities, and it is a perfectly good place to start. If you are not sure where your daughter fits, our office manager will walk you through it. You can reach the office at (718) 263-2121.
What Girls Build Beyond the Gymnastics Skills
Gymnastics is one of the few youth sports where the physical and the psychological progress together. A girl cannot fake a back handspring. She either commits to it or she does not, and learning to make that decision on her own is the part that follows her out the door.
- Strength and body control from bodyweight training that builds functional fitness with a low injury profile.
- Balance and coordination that transfer directly into dance, cheer, soccer, track, and swimming.
- Flexibility developed progressively and safely, not forced.
- Focus and concentration. Learning a routine in sequence trains the same working memory she uses in a classroom.
- Self-confidence and poise. Skills that were impossible last month become ordinary this month, over and over, which is a lesson no adult can talk a child into.
- Resilience. Falling, adjusting, and going again is the entire structure of a gymnastics practice.
What Parents Can Expect
Here is what the first month actually looks like from a parent’s side.
Before the first class. Register through our online portal or call the office. We will confirm her level and the class time, and tell you what to bring.
The first class. Arrive 10 minutes early. Her coach will introduce herself, walk her onto the floor, and start with a warm-up. Girls who are nervous are given time. Nobody is pushed onto an apparatus on day one.
Watching. Parents can watch from our viewing area. We ask that coaching stays with the coaches, because a girl looking at the bleachers mid-skill is a girl who is not looking at the beam.
Progress and communication. Coaches track skills through the season and will tell you directly where your daughter is and what she is working toward. If you want a longer conversation, ask at pickup or call the office. Our owner is reachable, which is not true of every gym in the borough.
Moving up. Level changes happen when a girl has the skills, not on a calendar. If your daughter is progressing quickly and enjoying the sport, her coach may raise the possibility of our competitive team program, which is by invitation only.

Frequently Asked Questions About Girls Gymnastics
Our girls gymnastics program starts at age 5 and runs through age 16. If she is younger than 5, look at Preschool Gymnastics for ages 3.5 to 5, Tiny Tots for ages 2.5 to 3.5, or Mommy and Me for ages 2 to 3.
No. The large majority of girls who walk in have never taken a gymnastics class. Beginners start in a beginner group with other beginners and learn the fundamentals from the ground up.
Once a week is a solid start and plenty for a girl trying the sport. Twice a week is typical for beginner and advanced recreational girls and produces noticeably faster progress, because skills need repetition inside a short enough window to stick. We would rather she come once a week consistently than twice a week sporadically.
Ages 2 to 3 start in Mommy and Me, where a parent or caregiver is on the floor. Ages 2.5 to 3.5 move to Tiny Tots, a 45 minute independent class. Ages 3.5 to 5 join Preschool Gymnastics for 55 minutes. From age 5, children move into Girls Gymnastics or Boys Gymnastics, where classes run 55 minutes to 2 hours by level. If your child sits between two programs, call us.
Between 55 minutes and 2 hours, depending on level. Beginners are typically 55 minutes. Advanced recreational classes run longer because there is more apparatus work to rotate through.
If she has no previous experience she will start at the beginner level. If you have any concerns about placement, speak with our office manager and we will sort it out. Moving up is based on demonstrated skills, assessed by her coach, not on time served.
Girls are required to wear a gymnastics leotard. Long hair should be tied back off the face and neck, and jewelry should be left at home. Gymnastics is done in bare feet, so no socks or sneakers are needed on the floor. Leotards allow full freedom of movement and let coaches see body positions clearly, which matters for both technique and safety.
Tuition depends on her level and how many days a week she trains. Current pricing for every class is listed in our online parent portal, and you can call the office at (718) 263-2121 if you would rather talk through the options.
Yes. Private lessons are available for girls who want individual attention, whether that is to get past one specific skill or to prepare for team tryouts. Call the office at (718) 263-2121 for availability.
