Competitive Girls Gymnastics Team in Queens, NY

Lana’s Gymnastics Club runs a competitive girls gymnastics team out of our Main Street facility in Flushing, training vault, bars, beam and floor for competition at state and regional level. Our coaches have been developing competitive gymnasts in Queens for more than 30 years.

Our team program is by invitation only. Gymnasts are invited by their coach based on skill level, work ethic and readiness, not by application. If your daughter is in our recreational girls program and progressing quickly, her coach will raise it with you.

What Competitive Gymnastics Actually Involves

Team is a different sport from recreational gymnastics, and parents deserve a straight description before they commit to it.

Your daughter will train the four women’s artistic events, working toward competition routines rather than toward individual skills:

Bars

The most technical event and usually the slowest to develop. Grip strength, swing mechanics, casting, and connected sequences.

Beam

Where meets are decided. Ninety percent of beam training is repetition under pressure until a routine holds up in front of judges.

Floor

Tumbling passes, dance elements, leaps and turns, choreographed into a routine and performed to music.

Alongside events, team gymnasts do structured strength and flexibility conditioning every session. That work is not optional and it is a meaningful share of training time.

How Gymnasts Are Invited to Team

There is no tryout form and no sign-up. Coaches watch the recreational program continuously and invite gymnasts when they see a specific combination:

  • Skill readiness. Enough of the foundational skill set on all four events to begin routine work safely.
  • Strength and flexibility base. The conditioning to handle a higher training volume without injury.
  • Coachability. A gymnast who takes a correction and applies it on the next attempt.
  • Resilience. Team involves months of work on a single skill, and scores that do not always reflect effort.
  • Genuine interest. This has to come from her. A gymnast who is on team because a parent wants it does not last a season.

If your daughter is not currently with us, the route in is the recreational program. Enroll her in Girls Gymnastics, let her train, and let her coaches assess her.

Training Commitment and Schedule

We offer flexible training schedules and we mean it. Not every family can put a gymnast in the gym on a fixed block of evenings, and we would rather work around a schedule than lose a gymnast who wants to be here.

That said, competitive gymnastics is a real commitment. Training hours scale with level, and higher levels require more days per week and longer sessions than recreational classes. Meets fall on weekends during the season and involve travel within the state and region.

If you have never had a child in competitive gymnastics, here is the shape of it.

Preseason. Routine construction and skill upgrades. No competition, high training volume.

In season. Meets on weekends. Your daughter competes all four events, receives a score out of 10.0 per event, and those combine into an all-around score. Teams also score collectively.

Championships. Gymnasts who hit qualifying scores advance to state and then regional championships.

Off season. Conditioning, new skills, and rest.

What Girls Get From Team Gymnastics

The physical side is obvious. The rest is why families stay for years.

  • Self-confidence built on evidence rather than encouragement
  • Perseverance, practiced on a skill that takes eight months instead of eight minutes
  • Teamwork, in an individually scored sport where the team total still depends on everyone
  • Time management, because a gymnast training several days a week and keeping her grades up learns to plan
  • Composure under pressure, which is the transferable skill parents notice years later at a job interview or an exam
  • A community. Our team families travel together, watch together and stay in touch long after gymnasts age out.

Our competitive program is built to produce strong, confident athletes who do well inside and outside the gym. That order is deliberate.
